UND Center for Community Engagement

Energy is now ND’s second largest industry, superseding tourism.

Energy is evident everywhere in Western ND. We experienced two different forms of energy today – human energy, sometimes called human capital in the classroom.

First, the power of stories with interviews was experienced in the homes and in the senior center, with students recording the oral histories of pioneers in the community.

Second, in Regent, we had a group meeting and exchange with an entrepreneur, artist, and educator who originated the Enchanting Highway and currently is developing the “Enchanted Castle.” He showed our group the maze of construction underway for a 19-room motel — a “destination” for tourists where they can enjoy leisurely so many of the ecological assets of the area.

He engaged with the students and the students were excited about his and will help him set up some social media sites.
