Emily Day 1-Cando

Today was the first stop on the tour. We were in Cando, North Dakota for most of the day. We started at the Tesoro station where we met JR Gibbens and he showed us around for most of the day. The part that I found the most interesting about Cando was their tremendous sense of community. We were learning about human capital and they seem to have an abundance of it. From their gas station to their coffee shop, there is a sense that everyone wants everyone else to be successful and happy. With only a handful of businesses and no real competition, it’s clear to see that they really value those who offer services and there is no ill-will due to competition, because there is none! I was really impressed by their legacy of not only the Gibbens family but the fact that they draw in people from as far away as Washington. They seem to value what they have so much more because they have to work so hard to keep their businesses going.
